I don’t think it matters whether the Pope is the developer, it’s just a bad development. It asks for so many exceptions to the rules, takes public land for private use, and makes no provision for protecting the neighbors.

If the Village wants to develop the north side of 63rd Street it ought to make a comprehensive plan that accumulates deep enough property to accommodate commercial development, and relocate or compensate the neighbors to the full extent of their loss.

On the other hand, there is a dying shopping center on the south side of 63rd Street just two blocks east of there, and that’s where I think the Village’s development resources should be placed.

Leave this neighborhood alone, and revitalize the dying shopping center. There’s much more upside potential with that approach.

I just stumbled upon your site, and I’m glad I did! Although it reminds me of how ill-informed I am, but at least reading your blog is a start!
