What Was Blago’s Kickback for Red Light Cameras?

blago-1Soon to be former Governor Blagojevich was a point man in rigging the Illinois Compiled Statutes to allow the seven collar counties around Chicago to employ Red Light Cameras.  It was one of the few things that has made it past the war between Blago and Mike Madigan.  Ah, how money can bridge the mightiest of gaps.

Exactly how much did RLC comanies promise him in campaign contributions for allowing this travesty?

He’s been criminally charged (indictments expected shortly) with trying to sell a senate seat for campaign contributions.  He’s also now been definitively connected to selling HOV lanes on the tollways for campaign contributions in excess of $500,000:

<!–[if !mso]> <! st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } –> a wealthy contractor promised on October 6 to make a $500,000 donation to the Friends of Blagojevich campaign account. Nine days later, the governor announced the $1.8 billion program whose centerpiece was the addition of High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes to the Illinois Tollway — an extra layer of toll collection on existing lanes within the already tolled roadway. The beauty of the Tomorrow’s Transportation Today concept was that it could be easily expanded to other parts of the state transportation network.

“I could have made a larger announcement but wanted to see how they perform by the end of the year,” Blagojevich said in private conversation. “If they don’t perform, [expletive] ’em.”

How long do you think before we find out Blago sold us down the river on Red Light Cameras for campaign contributions?  Blago lackey Emil Jones led the charge on this in the senate, and the lure of easy money, in what the nation now knows as the most politically corrupt state, proved too easy to say yes to. Even Mike Madigan said yes, and he never agrees to anything Blago wants.

I’ve already shown in previous posts that RedSpeed Illinois has made campaign contributions to local area politicians, thankfully no DG elected officials have stepped into this pile of RLC crap.  But Blago? It’s right in his wheel house to sell taxpayers down the river in return for campaign money.

And, really, Kirk Dillard: $500?  Even Bolingbrook’s Mayor Claar got an even $1,000 from RedSpeed Illinois.

Blago scoops up contributions by the millions, with thousands PAC’s, companies, and individuals on record as contributors, and when the feds start parsing through his records, they will find all kinds of suspect bundlings, PAC’s transfers, and contributions.  No doubt some of them from Red Light Camera vendors, suppliers, and executives.  Maybe even from insurance companies, and from grateful fellow politicians who get a little taste of the RLC action.
