IReadItInDG!

7/2/08 Bruno Behrend explains how people like IRIIDG get so full of themselves:

“If you don’t know anything, you will generally think what you are told to think.”  IRIIDG doesn’t want you to know anything, so he/she/they can tell you what to think.

6/27/08 Going, going…

Haven’t heard from my buddy (buddies?) for almost three weeks now. They must not have much to contribute except to bitch about those of us who actually feel like voicing an opinion, offering an alternative POV, etc. Must be lonely just being catty and negative all the time. I keep waiting for a constructive comment on our village doings, but that isn’t in the cards is it? Did not think so. That’s what happens when you just drag down with lies and misinformation.

————————————————————————————–

This person/these guys must really have it in for Elaine Johnson’s DGreport, because all they seem to do is harp on how awfully bad and distorted her site treats, ummm…something. They are not quite clear where IReadItInDG is going yet, but I am sure they will figure it out by election time.

This page is specifically for the folks who write IReadItInDG so they can have a complete post of each of their emails that they send out. I like to think if you give people information they will make an informed opinion.

So, just send me the emails-I subscribed-and I’ll put them up. Thank you. Of course, maybe I am just being ‘punk’d’ here too, by an angry person who is fed up with my opinion, but is too much the coward to just come right out and say so. Send me a BS email and have a laugh at how I react. If so, I have indeed been ‘punk’d’.

PS- Just a friendly heads up. DGreport, when I copy something from there or send it somewhere, I ask permission to use her copyrighted material. I’m sure you do that already, but I just wanted to be sure. you can use my stuff though. No copyright here, because I am not a professional journalist.

I’m just this guy…

Down and out in the library

June 5th, 2008 ·

· Meat // Jun 5, 2008 at 9:35 am
Wow. Just wow.
Our library is a safe haven for the homeless but not necessarily for your kids, so be careful. If your daughter does encounter a homeless man snoozing in front of a porn site, tell her to be mindful not to wake him, he may cause a ruckus and that isn’t fair to him-he has rights.
But your daughter, who only wants a reasonably safe place to read and study, does not.
This may be the most ‘So Downers Grove’ moment I’ve ever experienced since we moved here. Unbelievable.
“If they’re camping out, we may ask them to move on,” Bowen said.
Or, you may not. Once again, camping out in the library is your right, a safe place to read is not.
Just wow.
IReadItInDG has only one thing to say…You, Meat, are a small minded, vanilla village idiot. We suppose the “public” portion of things like our Public Library or Public Transportation should resemble the comfy, cozy DVD playing backseat of your minivan…Welcome to the real world, not everyone looks and/or acts like you (thank GOD)… and your so-called daughter should be made aware of it sooner than later.

(Editor’s note: This comment raises many issues, but none of them are relevant to a post about buses. FYI Innocent Bystander, I will look into the issues you raise — indeed, I have been working on a post on the topic. If I find your comments have merit. I will repost them in conjunction with that post.’
IReadItInDG has the full content of this Large-Person’s rant about things he has issues with…The Police, The Village Council and his own inadequacies…e-mail us at ireaditindg@aol.com for the rest of his oversized yet little content. We are reminded of the recent story in the newspaper about how large and inefficient cars are being replaced by smaller, smarter, more efficient vehicles…perhaps the negative Hummers of this community should let bygones go and think like Civic Hybrids…just a thought.

The rest of the story

June 3rd, 2008

District 58 school board member Scott O’Connell’s conflicts with fellow board members have been well documented on this blog, including his response to the board’s decision to censure him for filing an open meetings act complaint with the Illinois Attorney General and other transgressions.
Seriously…when WILL this administrator get over the fact that her roommate lost the D58 election? When will this so-called blog stop allowing the individual rant about un-documented and baseless rhetoric and start talking about things like the chipmunk population in her backyard like she used to do in her sometimes read SUN article? We really did like you much more, EJ, when you weren’t inventing “hot topics”.
——-
The other one had a tough week so I’ll let him off the hook…Not Quite Right on the Fairview Village thing, Not Quite Right on the rant regarding the source (and sex) of this content, Not Quite Right on the relationship between a respectable local attorney and his clients, Not Quite Right on a village employee that retained a consultant to report a pre-conceived notion about housing. Tough week indeed… Better luck next week, if you can possibly remember the content of the meetings you attend.

Tonight’s the night?

May 20th, 2008 · 19 Comments

Love the real time posts, Boys. The fact that the entire Council meeting can be watched by anyone with a computer (live!) from the Channel Six stream is completely lost on you. No, no….It is much better to keep refreshing the blog page to see if one of the on-the-scene “reporters” has posted and update. I can see it now. Tully talks, tack-tack-tack-post (think to myself, “boy EJ is gonna love me for this!”)…Tully talks some more, (the other one thinks, can’t let him beat me on THIS one) tack-tack-tack-post (boy-o-boy, EJ likes me best!). And so it goes for the balance of the night. Keep up the good work!

What (little) we know

May 22nd, 2008 · 4 Comments

Anyone else notice a less “edgy” administrator/”journalist” today? Seems to us a couple of posts ago there was a rampant conspiracy going on that dated back decades. Now the Council has done the right thing, on several levels…Do you think it will last? IReadItInDG doesn’t either. No matter what the leader of this thing does or writes it will not garner anything more than freakish i-can’t-look-away-even-though-it-is-a-trainwreck interest until the posts are monitored and scrutinized prior to making it online.

————-

Nothing much on the other one, except that he has decided to post our content on its own page. Nice attempt to draw visitors to his site since near as we can tell from the posting action we have probably ten times the readership (an estimate, don’t quote me on that). We like that he has tagged it “elections” and “humor”, among others. Why is this of interest? First, we don’t think IReadItInDG has anything to do with elections. If he is referring to National races, we’ve never mentioned them. If he is referring to local races we guess he takes it as an attack when his name is mentioned since he hasn’t stopped campaigning since his resounding defeat in 2007. Plenty of time for the real campaigning when there are opponents, fella. Let’s wait for the ink to dry on the petitions. Second, tagged as “humor”. He then goes on to call IReadItInDG a hate piece from the small minded. Can’t figure it out. While he campaigns he shouldn’t say (outloud) that he thinks hate is humorous. I suppose he’ll come up with a regular guy response about how IReadItInDG is hate-filled and it is his responses that bring humor, but our readers could have predicted that. Working the room from both ends again.

Update:While I was talking about the SB99 elections and the dirty tricks and lies spread there, this person is already ramping up for all the elections as well as reliving the last one. Small minded missed the point, so I’ll spell it out.

I posted it under “elections” because the tone and writing style of your letters reminds me of the half page hate ads that ran during the SB99 elections attacking every candidate but Bob Lemke, Paul Mcarthy, and Megan Schroeder, who ran as a ticket, and who all won.

Many residents attended the SB99 forums at North and South, and heard the same unfortunate rhetoric spouted, despite requests by the student moderators specifically NOT to do that. So while I do not like negative campaigning, and I did not want to think we’d see it again, there I saw it, and I recognize it when I see it creeping around the edges of the light. And you are creeping around the edges of the light, make no mistake about that.

PS- Good to see you took my advice about copyright infringement.

Your say: Public vs. private

July 23rd, 2007

…In fact, I get pretty testy with people who can’t tell the difference between negativity and constructive criticism. IMHO, negativity is all about sniping at people or institutions for the sake of venting your spleen or taking someone down a couple of notches.
Constructive criticism, on the other hand, looks for ways to improve our collective lot. It doesn’t shy away from the truth–wherever it may lead–but it refuses to allow the discussion to sink to the personal….
One free subscription to IReadItInDG for anyone who guesses correctly the source of the words above.
Good thing subscription is free…EJ’s twist of topics to suit her own needs is apparent. Last year she was still trying to promote a site that avoided personal attack (while never shying away from the truth. HAH!!! more like never delving into anything resembling the truth). Fast forward to this week and we see that her convictions were soft and not as altruistic as first “reported”.

Edgy

May 16th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’ve been so swamped this week that I haven’t completed my intended council meeting post. In the meantime, I’ll offer this week’s column as fresh meat.
I lost a little sleep over this one, not to mention a couple of hours on Mother’s Day. It’s always a challenge to say what you mean, especially on a hot-button topic, without going overboard.
Feel free to post your opposing view.
As often happens, you’ve hit on a dead topic. Your attempt to weave your “edgy” little blog topics into your 25 cent per word opinion piece (or is it journalism, I forget) has resulted in a complete lack of interest (two posts as of this morning?). The possible exception might be your five or ten fellow, regular contributors who also believe that the events of April 2007 never happened and the voice of the Village electorate was never heard.
Your own admission in a previous post was that you are surprised by the threads that generate post activity and your lack of ability to predict it. You must continue to be surprised when you took a holiday that was supposed to celebrate your contributions to your family and turned it into a day crafting personal attacks. It is no wonder your contributors feel at home at your site. Lack of substance, lack of character and lack of respect for your fellow citizens (most of who don’t even know you exist) are the norm.
Last note: “Partisan” politics would suggest there are political parties involved. The Municipal elections you reference are non-partisan by their very nature. Your attempt to piggyback on the National rift between parties was weak, but then again IReadItInDG expects nothing less from you. Keep making up “hot-button” issues! IReadItInDG needs new material!

Letters to the Editor

We all live in a busy world surrounded by the written word. The Times, Newsweek, The Journal, The Tribune, Grover News, Streetwise and the rest. Throw on top of the garbage heap the national, statewide and local blogs…we can’t read it all!
I’ve decided to take one off the list for you. Now you can read the best of the best of the Downers Grove Blogs without having to wade through them post by post.
I READ IT SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO!!!The Management at IReadItInDG has decided in an unprecedented move (for us) to turn things over to our subscribers. We couldn’t resist a little commentary…

Dear IReadItInDG:
Thank you so much for the most recent update. I’m sorry your e-mail provider doesn’t respond well to mine. There seems to be a lot of that going on around town!
-Name Withheld by the IReadItInDG Editorial Board
Dear Intelligent Contributor: There does indeed seem to be a lot going around town. I assume you are referring, as I am, to more than just the electronic transfer of IReadItInDG, the “Best Read In Town” (as voted on by us).
A letter to EJ from an IReadItInDG subscriber in response to the recent SUN piece:
Just because all 12 of the anonymous village idiots on your blog have convinced you this is partisan does not make it so … neither does your headline or the news you create rather than report. In fact, the reason you’ve been accused of being unable to get over the election is you’re unwillingness to act as though you were actually a professional reporter rather than the gossip columnist you’ve become. Perhaps if you were in fact even remotely inclined to act as a rosy eyed optimist, you’d verify rather than just publish the blather (Commissioner Tully’s words, not mine) that is so rampant on your blog. No, in typical fashion you work as hard at making news as you do at reporting it.

The only thing we know officially is that this council, one that includes Commissioner Tully (certainly no blindly led slate member or Sandack supporter) hold a unanimous position that the Village would be better off with a new Village Manager… your inflammatory, unsubstantiated rhetoric about cronyism, blind allegiance, die-hard supporters and vengeful opponents only serves you. It’s a shame to your profession that you are unable or disinclined (I’ll let you tell us) to exhibit the very traits you profess to seek in our elected officials – the exercise of benevolent leadership and the willingness to devote time and talent to a selfless and important endeavor.

Perhaps in your rant below you should have published some of Mr. Tully’s comments from your blog. I suppose that since they come from possibly the highest profile Krajewski supporter and defend the unanimous actions of this Council they don’t serve you well, it should come as no surprise they didn’t make it into the free rag on everyone’s doorstep. That’s the very worst kind of reporting – the kind that removes context and discloses only parts of the story in an effort to bend the truth. I have no idea (nor do I care) what agenda (if any) you may have but I do care about this Village. You do it a dis-service every time you help facilitate the spread of gossip, misinformation or downright lies. Every time you allow anonymous bloggers to attack others (public or otherwise, it matters not to right and wrong) and put forth no effort to ascertain the truthfulness of their writing you do a dis-service to the political process and a dis-service to humanity.

I suppose we should have known from early on in your article where your mind was when you said “regardless of the truth”. How telling is that line? Quite. At the risk of becoming a target of yours, shame on you Elaine, shame on you.

-Name Withheld by the IReadItInDG Editorial Board
Dear Intelligent Contributor: Your letter reminds me of times when authors took pride in their words and researched their letters/articles before printing them. Clearly as long as the Downers Grove blogs exist there will be fewer and fewer reminders. Taking a minute to research the content of your work (and I don’t mean Google searches from your basement computer in the middle of the night) is expected, nay, required of any respected journalist, columnist or even gossipy-blogger. Thus the continued decline in the respect for the subject of your letter.

Dear IReadItInDG:
Okay my friend, we once again have the “I’m not a lawyer but I get to pretend to be one here so pay attention lemmings. Notice by the way what he cites as his legal source for the homeless having the upper hand : none other than www.blog.librarylaw.com Nice con.
That site in it’s own words on the masthead proclaims “Note: Not legal advice – just a dangerous mix of thoughts and information.” Please. I am begging you. This man has all the insight and interpersonal skills of a wolverine.
-Name Withheld by the IReadItInDG Editorial Board
Dear Intelligent Contributor: Your colorful use of wildlife references entertains us to no end. Thanks and keep up the support.

Dear IReadItInDG:
God, I hope you are sending these to EJ too. Please. I am begging you.
Unbelievable.
-Name Withheld by the IReadItInDG Editorial Board

Dear Intelligent Contributor: IReadItInDG neither condones nor practices the random and/or targeted delivery of unsolicited e-mail (yet). We are, however 100% subscriber supported. So feel free, if you have her address, to send it along. Perhaps she will subscribe and receive her very own copy.

“the free rag on everyone’s doorstep”

Is that The Sun, The Reporter, or The Grover?

  2. RedFred Says:

Don’t facilitate this idiot, or these idiots. They can’t write a proper sentence, they attack a posters daughter for God’s sake, and they probably fear to engage in any honest back and forth discussion.

If you get this drivel, the mayor probably does too. Wonder how he feels about it.

  3. markthoman Says:

I am not certain how this will play out, but this person/these persons have decided their opinions are all people need to know on a topic, an issue, a person. That is kind of scary. You do not need to know any facts, just her/their opinion?

I have always felt at least trying to cite sources is a good thing. Show people the process that leads to my opinion, then they can read the background and make an informed decision for themselves.

IReadItInDG does not do that. Nor does she ever talk about an issue, just about Elaine Johnson, about me (probably because I stuck my nose into it), and now about DGreport posters, and their children.

Self righteous justification rarely has a rational basis in common sense or fact. It does lead to a lot of scurrying around the baseboards, and a lot of mean spirited tearing down of others, but not much in dialog, in moving issues forward constructively, in sharing information, and of working to solve problems and reach goals.

  4. Elaine Johnson Says:

Dialog isn’t the intent, clearly. Otherwise, IReadItInDG would have included my response to his/her Volume 6/Letters to the Editor missives in a succeeding edition. This would seem to make IReadItInDG far more offensive than a blog in its abuse of anonymity. At least our blogs are open to all comers. Anyone and everyone may challenge a post or a comment. But the author of IReadItInDG isn’t interested in any viewpoint but his/her own. Yet this pot continues to call our kettles black.

So why don’t you follow up on Fred’s suggestion and see what the mayor thinks of IReadItInDG’s, Thoman?

  5. markthoman Says:

LOL. Ron reads both blogs, and he must get these goofy emails. Why should he bother to respond? He is not in any of it. The guy who should be told is Meat. That is so weird that she takes out after him and his daughter.

I am shamelessly baiting them to start talking about their last anonymous slur campaigning during the SB99 elections. As near as I can tell, the first in the history of the village. As near as I can tell, these are the same people.

Oh, yeah, I am not quite right about that connection…and I don’t even have to ask for proof, because garsh, she’s doing the readin and thinkin for me!

  6. DGDood Says:

Short memory dude. You forgot Pekharts emails that Advocates President Daniels pimped to the newspapers, and how there was 99 attacks ads on two guys back in 2005.

And ain’t it funny how 99 always has those bagels with the board meetings at the library come election time, and how they run ads about how kick ass a job incumbents are doing? Didn’t see any bagels with the board meetings to get feedback from us taxpayers on the new contract. Missed that. Retiring super lards out a 4 year contract. Didn’t miss that.

Take it to the bank, they’re done wrecking 99, their little real estate deal blew up in their faces so time to move on to council! THAT’s why all these emails, dude, you got that right.

  7. Elaine Johnson Says:

Wow. Just wow. We haven’t heard from IRIIDG for, what, three weeks? Gone underground or just gone?
